INFO Borderlands é um jogo com perspectiva em primeira pessoa, mas relativamente diferente dos demais títulos do gênero FPS, pois conta com diversos elementos de RPG. Desenvolvido pela Gearbox Software, que também é responsável pelos jogos da franquia Brothers in Arms, o jogo coloca você no comando de diversas classes diferentes, cada uma com suas características próprias.
Ao todo, existem três classes diferentes: Soldier (soldado), Hunter (caçador) e Siren (sereia). Destaque para os Soldiers, que contam com uma vantagem interessante. Quem optar por estes soldados não terá de se preocupar com a aquisição de munição. Os Soldiers contam a Digital Backpack, uma espécie de mochila em que é possível obter itens físicos carregando apenas dados digitais.
Além disso, é possível fazer com que seus personagens ganhem novas habilidades, que são adquiridas conforme o jogador progride pelo game. Algumas destas capacidades ampliam o tempo de recarregamento, defesa e muito mais. Mas nada se compara a grandeza do arsenal de Borderlands.
O jogo conta com um sistema capaz de fornecer cerca de 500.000 tipos de armas diferentes. Para identificar cada uma delas, basta se aproximar e verificar atributos que aparecem na tela. Através da aparência também é possível perceber se está visualizando um rifle bom ou não. Armas com barris maiores são mais precisas, enquanto cores demonstram as propriedades especiais de cada uma delas (incendiária, corrosiva ou elétrica). O pente de munição e a mira também podem ser vistos sem dificuldade.
Fora isso, Borderlands também oferece um modo de cooperativo repleto de possibilidades. É possível pilotar veículos em dupla e alterar entre motorista e atirador enquanto joga. O jogo está disponível para PC, Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3
